Asides being an attractive and charming city, Constanta is also a center of art and culture, with several museums and theatres. The archaeological museum has an important collection of ancient treasures discovered along the Black Sea coast, among which the remains of a large Roman mosaic tile floor.

An impressive public building, thought to have originally been a port building, has been excavated, and contains the substantial remains of one of the longest mosaic pavements in the world.

A very rich Museum showcasing the remains of the past empires, an evidence of the city's rich and diverse cultural history. The most prized exponents are marble mythological statues, one of a serpent with an antelope's head, human ears and a lion's tail.

Outside the museum, some ancient tombstone epitaphs, a good example is. The statue-monument of Ovid marking his tomb stands in the Ovid Square (Piata Ovidiu) of Constanta, in front of the History Museum (the former City Hall). The Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso (43 BC-17) who was on exile in the city, banished by Augustus and remained until his death, his poems celebrated the town of Tomis (present day Constanta). Ovid described the years spent here in his famous cycles of poems "Ponticae" and "Tristia".

Art Museum, having a rich collection of 20th Century Romanian paintings by popular artists at that time. The Romanian Navy Museum, displaying Greek ships, Second World War Romanian battleships. Every year, there is Navy day celebration and this brings the museum and the harbor to vibrancy.

Apart from the museum, evidence of the city's Greek, Roman, and Byzantine past is scattered around the city park, huge amphorae and ancient wall remain a big Aquarium, home to more than 4500 species of marine life from the Black Sea. The Dolphinarium has trained dolphins which entertain. The Planetarium teaches about the Universe and the constellations of the night sky.


A small leisure harbor called Tomis. Among the boats sheltered there it is not unusual to see some from the other end of the world - Included among this awesome boats collection in the port is the 80 years old Queen Maria's yacht.


The big Mahmudie Mosque, a landmark of the Turkish influence over the region. Of sea-washed pebbles encased in the roof make it look like a jewel box. The mosque can be visited and its tall tower (50m) offers a great view of the old town and the harbor.

The beautiful beaches and resorts: Mamaia resort,
the largest of the Romanian beach resorts, Mamaia has a 8 km long by about 100 m wide beach with most of the hotels located in close proximity or directly on the beach. The resort has mini golf, tennis courts and an outdoor theatre and every year the Mamaia Music Festival is hosted there. It offers a great summer getaway and receives thousands of visitors every year.
